Given these choices, today I would chose a new book. I don't think that I'd ever pick the new computer but if you caught me on a day when this one got ruined then I might change my answer. New shoes....... now those are nice too. And on any other given day I might have chosen those too. But today I would chose a new book.
A new book is a new world, a new story, a new bunch of ideas to explore. A new book lets you see and hear new things and experience something that you might not otherwise get to experience.
The big discussion at work today centered around whether on not one of the girls wanted to get the next book in the Twilight series. She did but someone else told her she could borrow one from them. But I got the feeling she wanted her very own book to hold and have and keep. I'm like that with books. I like to have them. I read them and I read them voraciously.
It's nothing for me to stay up all night if I'm loving what I'm reading and wanting to know how it turns out in the end. Like The Book Of Negroes. I finished that at 3am one night/morning.
There are books that you never forget and books that I dream about the characters that live in them. Like Deafening. I dreamt about those characters for months afterwards. And Water For Elephants - I was reading that book when I was in a minor plane crash and it was such an engrossing and lovely book that I never knew something bad was going on until after it was all over.
There are books that you read and pass on to everyone that you can think of. Like the Outlander series. They are a good fun read and I won't apologise for loving them as much as I do. They are the one group of books that now as the characters are getting older I don't actually want to finishe because I am afraid that someone is going to die and somehow I feel that if I don't read it then it won't happen. So I find out from someone else if my favourites are alive at the end or not. And then go ahead and read the next one.
I gave up my Indigo/Chapters club card as a form of self defense. Otherwise I would just buy book after book after book. And I don't have room for that many books.
I went through my books and gave away easily more than a hundred. There were boxes of books lines up and ready to leave my house and a good friend was horrified and asked if she could have some of them. I told her absolutely so she looked through them and took the ones she wanted. And that day I was totally OK with that. And I looked through them again and I didn't take a single one back again. Now none of them were my favourites, they were books I probably would never open again. But it was a HUGE step for me to part with them. Happily alot of them made the rounds in my neighbourhood and lots of ladies enjoyed them.
But the numbers are creeping up again. I love reading about other times and I have dicovered Phillipa Gregory and all the princesses of England. And I go back in time safely to see what happened back then. I know enough of the history to know what she writes is basically what history believes happened and so I get to enjoy what she thinks they thought and said and those historical people come alive in my mind.
There is Chocolat and all of Joanne Harris's other books as well as the Joshephine B trilogy and those will never leave me unless something terrible happens and I am left with no choice in the matter.
Yup! Today given the choice, I chose a new book.
What do you chose????

Long Time Gone
Well I have been a long time gone from this blog. Just about 2 years by the looks of it. I guess I kind of lost track of it and started working on An Artfelt Life and just never came back here. But I've been thinking about it and trying to decide what I want this to be.
My name on some sites is guitargerle and that's where the name for this blog came from. Those sites are primarily art stamping blogs but the name came from my love of guitars and song writing so I was hoping I could combine the two.
I guess we'll see.
For now it's enough for me that I like the title of the blog and the photo I chose. Looks like my beautiful Washburn.
